Here is an example that would start after the luke warm open. Don't care for the font, and the images could be different (better).

Letterman Over the Shoulder
I was looking for a classic Late Night with David Letterman title sequence, but found this instead.
Brilliant.
Brilliant.
Saturday Night Live Intro
It's hard to find the true SNL intro on Youtube, probably because NBC is protecting it over on Hulu.
The title sequence so iconic, that I don't think it would be worth imitating unless you parody it.
Here's a low budget production imitating the SNL opening. Yes, it's possible, but what's the point? There's no tooth.
And a recent episode of SNL. The titles begin at 5 minutes in.

Kids in the Hall Opening Titles
Black and white, hand held, with squiggly titles. Reminds me of a classic REM video, but that could have something to do with the guitar.
Blamimations
Cheap and hilarious cartoons from Scott Kurtz and Kris Straub. No lip sync -- I don't know if I could be that bold.

A Research Blog
Hey internet peoples, my name is Mike Boas. I'm going to be contributing some animation to a certain sketch comedy show. But first, I need to cull the internet for reference material.
This is... a research blog.
Enjoy.
